Diagnosis: Band heterotopia

Band heterotopia is specific form of gray matter heterotopia in which there is arrest of gray matter migration resulting in a symmetric band of subcortical gray matter which has been referred to as the "double cortex sign". There may be some associated cortical pachygyria. Clinically patients are developmentally delayed, often with a seizure disorder. An association with the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome has been reported. This syndrome consists of age related epileptogenic encephalopathy which manifests as multiple types of generalized seizures with progressive cognitive decline. Related Cases
