Diagnosis: Right C6-7 herniated disk

Disk herniations at the C6-7 level account for up to 75% of disk herniations in the cervical spine. C5-6 herniations make up almost all the remaining cervical disk herniations. On imaging, disk herniations appear as epidural soft tissue lesions which may have calcification. Symptoms may range from neck pain to radiculopathy and myelopathy if there is significant cord compression. Midline disk herniations are more commonly seen in the cervical region when compared to the lumbar spine. Lateral disk herniations are unusual in the cervical spine probably secondary to reinforcement by the uncinate processes.

There is usually no differential diagnostic dilemma with regard to cervical disk herniations. Other entities which may be considered in the general differential of an epidural mass include lymphoma, metastasis, and schwannoma. Related Cases
