Diagnosis: Right lumbosacral synovial cyst
Synovial cysts arise from degenerated articular facets which are lined by synovium. They may contain proteinaceous fluid, blood or air. The lack of enhancement, plus the fact that the fluid collection arises from the facet suggests the diagnosis. An abscess or other inflammatory process should enhance and have the appropriate clinical signs and symptoms.
